Next two letters

January 24, 1999
Boulder, Colorado

Dear Dave,

We are pleased to write you this letter testifying to the value of MCTF (the Vector Foundation) as well as your personal dedication toward helping youth that are at high risk for failure and generally not "headed" in the right direction.

As we reflect on the past five months, we realize that you have played a key role in helping our family through some very difficult times. Your personal impact is probably far greater than you can possibly realize. It all started in late September 1998 when our son Cory (age 12) linked up with three older (15) girls and collectively they hatched a runaway scheme that ultimately included elements of theft, forgery, lying to police, drugs... We were connected with you by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation during the days after the kids ran away, but before we knew where they were or what the plan was. When we first met you, we were a bit skeptical in that you and the Vector Foundation just seemed "too good to be true!" You walked all of us through the process of alerting authorities, planning a retrieval if that were necessary, and just being a source of knowledge in an area that none of us had previously delved. You and your colleague Cindy provided all of your time and support on a gratis basis as part of the mission of the Foundation.

Once the kids were stopped outside of Independence, California and placed in juvenile detention you agreed to assist all of the parents by traveling to Independence (once again, on the Foundation's nickel) to retrieve the kids and provide what ever other support that was necessary. You walked Cliff and Bill Gibson (the other dad in the retrieval) through all the right steps including dealing with the local authorities on issues regarding probation, vehicle impoundment, etc. without your assistance, it would have been difficult to get answers.

Beyond the initial retrieval, you have volunteered many hours to try and work with our older son Mont regarding issues of his association with "the fringe," the girlfriend from hell, drug use at and around Fairview High School, and several police actions related to the girlfriend from hell. You have also provided a tremendous amount of support to Donna both from a personal perspective and as a knowledgeable individual in and around our court system.

We wholeheartedly support what you and the Vector Foundation are trying to accomplish. You have made a defined impact on our children and our lives in general. If there is ever anything we can do to help you in the future, please don't hesitate to call.

You have made a difference!!

Sincerely,

Cliff and Donna
