Allyn
has a master's degree in education and he's been teaching
since 1987. He taught math and science at Brawley Union High
School and he became the director of Brawley's drop-out-prevention
program. Allyn was the advisor to the class of 1991 and the
American Field Service (Foreign Exchange Students). He was
also a varsity football, head varsity wrestling and head varsity
softball coach during his three year tenure at Brawley High
School.
Allyn
moved on to teach one year of special education and seven
years of physical education for the Calexico Unified School
District. During this time he became the head varsity basketball
and softball coach for Calexico High School. Additionally,
he was the athletic director at De Anza Junior High. Currently,
he is teaching Physical Education for the Jefferson County
Public School District in Colorado.
Allyn
is a certified camp director through the American Camping
Association and he was the first male camp director at Campfire's
Camp Wolahi located in the San Diego Mountains.
Allyn
experienced his worst nightmare on October 2, 1999. His son,
Jaryd, was lost while hiking in the Rocky Mountains with eleven
adults and he was never seen again. Allyn wasn't on the hike,
but the actions of others changed his life forever.
Allyn
believes his son could be alive today if he would have had
a whistle and a hero. He also believes Whistle
Away Crime® will prevent other parents from experiencing
the horrific pain he has had to live through.
He,
and his daughter Josallyn, helped launch the Amber Alert in
the state of Colorado.
